Endodontics is root canal therapy. This treatment is a way of saving a tooth that would otherwise have to be extracted. Teeth needing this type of treatment have usually been damaged by decay, fracture, leakage of bacteria causing infection or trauma. The purpose of the treatment is to return the tooth to good health and so to restore it to full function, enabling you to continue life without pain, swelling or infection.
Endodontics or “root canal treatment” as it is more commonly known, is required when the when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (the pulp) is infected through decay or injury. The aim of the treatment is to preserve the tooth by removing all traces of infection and then filling it to prevent further infection.
